We have new shaded mix packs and paper sheets!

Our newest tool, The Deluxe Crimper, is hot!!  Kids love it and there are so many different ways to use crimped strips.  The tool has two different sized crimps, fine and course.  It can crimper paper strips up to 3/8-inch or 9mm.

Roll a crimped as is OR sandwich the crimped strip between to flat strips of paper.  Be sure to roll the paper gently so that the crimps don’t flatten out.

For a quick and easy jewelry project, roll a few different strips of crimped quilling paper.  Then glue them inside our jewelry pendants or rings!  Pearls are my favorite, but gems will definitely bring out some bling!

This fish pendant shows the new shade of oranges.  I’m in love with these colors!

I’m excited to show you the next book that I’ve written, “Quilled Flowers” published by Lark.  A lovely mixed of projects for all types of quillers and crafters.  It definitely was a huge project to work on since I tried to cover all different kinds of flowers.

I used a 1-inch punch (by Fiskars) and my left over scrapbook paper to punch different circles. This is a great way to use up those small scrap pieces!

Here’s how to make it the QUILLED HEART NECKLACE:

1. ) To make the heart, roll two 8-inch (20 cm) strips of RED quilling paper (1/8-inch wide) into teardrops and glue them together.

2.) Glue the circle piece into the pendant (most craft glues will work!).  You can find the pendant on our website, “Round Necklace Pendant“.  They’re super light and the perfect depth for quilling!

3.) Glue the heart inside the pendant.

I’m still debating whether I’ll put the Crystal Coat Glaze on top of their hearts.  I know it’ll look fabulous with the shiny covering, but there won’t be enough class time to let them dry.

But…we’ll frame the necklace inside a tri-fold card with a circle cutout. Then they can decorate and write a special message inside!  Too cute!  I can see this being a nice Valentine’s Day gift too!

I really love miniature techniques because you can make so many different three-dimensional objects with paper strips. I prefer using 1/4-inch (6 mm) wide paper because it’s more “forgiving” when I shape my pieces.

If you remember, I did a similar project like this last year with pictures, “Easter Basket“, but this time I have a YouTube video! For those of you who don’t like reading instructions (like me!), this video shows the “3x Tucking Rule” that I write in all of my 3D Quilling Kits. I showed this at CHA, so it only has text and music.

MiniMold Tool

In addition to the jewelry kits, I also introduced at CHA a new tool called the MiniMold! I can’t make miniatures without it!  It shapes my flat tight circles into neat and evenly shaped domes…so all you perfectionists out there are going to fall in love with it!  No more looking all over the house for a marble, golf ball or digging through my kid’s toy box for a rubber ball!

It includes 12 different dome shapes and it fits in our double-sided storage box.

Here’s a handy chart that lists what dome to use with the paper strips.  Note: The quilling paper lengths or “full-length” are about 16-inches which are Quilled Creations paper lengths and thickness. I recommend using 1/4-inch (6 mm) wide quilling paper for making 3-D shapes.

The kit makes two pendants! I found a wonderful clear glaze that not only helps bond your paper to the pendant, but it leaves a nice thin coating over your quilling. “Crystal Coat Glaze” is so much fun to use because it spreads easily then hardens the quilling like it’s porcelain. It’s so cool! A little tube goes a long way too!

We found out that we were selected as the TOP 20 Innovative Product ONLY a week before CHA.  So, the crazy quiller that I am, I made over 100 of these pendants to giveaway! They loved them!

BUT after six long months of working on new quilling kits and tools, I finally released them at the tradeshow! I’m so excited that I can share them with you! I’ll posting them throughout this week!

This year the Quilled Creations’ booth was the biggest it has EVER been (10′ x 40′). It’s a overwhelming task to get set-up. Like the “circus” curtains?  I’m glad our booth cover them up!

This is the reason…a little puppy that keeps me quite busy at home!

Because she has an obsession with paper, I’ve had to reorganize my entire quilling studio/office. No paper on the floor, which is a good thing and I have to admit that my office is looking very clean! By the way, puppy training is going well!

Here’s a project to celebrate the heavy snow falling outside my window!  It’s our first big snow fall here in NY!

READY FOR WINTER?

- 1/8″ wide quilling paper: light blue, lilac, grape, light brown, bright white

QUILLING INSTRUCTIONS

1.) To make the quilled hat, use 12-inch grape and roll into a triangle (SIZE 2). Roll three 4-inch light blue strips into loose circles (SIZE 6) and glue a 1-inch grape around each loose circle. Pinch into squares. For the tassels, fold a 1-inch lilac strip in half; cut a slit in strip lengthwise down middle and form each cut end into a scroll. Assemble and glue on to the card front.

2.) To make the mitten, roll a 6-inch grape strip into a rectangle. Roll an 8-inch light blue strip into a half circle (SIZE 3). Roll a 2-inch strip into a teardrop. Assemble and glue on to the card front.

3.) To make the hot cocoa mug, roll a 16-inch lilac strip into a rectangle (SIZE 1). Curve the top edge inward. For the top of the mug, roll a 4-inch light brown strip into a marquise (SIZE 6).  Glue and wrap a 2-inch lilac strip around the marquise. For the mug handle, roll a 2-inch lilacstrip into an “S” scroll. For steam, roll two 2-inch bright white strips into “S” scrolls. Assemble and glue the mug pieces to the card front.  For the marshmallows, cut two small pieces from the bright white strip and glue on top of mug.

Here’s a great way to make a fun, color-coordinated bow in a minute!

EASY QUILLED BOW

1.) Take a 4-5 strips of 1/4″ (6 mm) wide quilling paper. Pick colors that match the wrapping paper.

2.) Fold them in half and staple.

3.) Curl the ends!

4.) Unroll some of the coils.

5.) Attach it to your present! So quick and easy!

First, I highly recommend keeping your quilling paper in the package because it’ll keep your papers from creasing or tangling. I like the 17-inch length of our Quilled Creations papers because they stack neatly side-by-side and they fit in those standard storage bins with drawers! (Also, majority of my designs use strips 16-inches or less!  The extra inch on the paper lengths allows you to tear off the ends – a good quilling technique!)

Use a binder ring and feed it through the hole in the packaging. You can find these at your local office supply store.

Use one ring for all of your colors or several rings and group them by like colors.

Next, use scissors to cut an opening though the bag.  CUT ONLY ONE LAYER of the bag. Avoid cutting to the bag’s edge or it might rip completely from the label. If it does happen, then just reinforce the cut ends with tape. You only need a hole big enough to pull one end of the paper out.

Detach a quilling strip from the inner layer (see photo). Pull a strip out and detach it from the other end. Simple! No kinks, no bends, no tangle! (Technique Tip: Once I have the strip out of the packaging, I immediately tear off the ends or the padding glue that might still be on the paper ends. You want to have a feathered torn end so when the paper’s end is glued to the coil it will look seamless!)

With multi-colored quilling packs, I use zip-lock bags or the 6″ x 9″ bags that our kits are stored in.  I try to keep like colors together.  It doesn’t always happen, especially when I’m in a rush to take some quilling paper on a trip or for a class. But the bags helps store those loose strips of quilling paper.

Another tip to hold your mixed/multi-colored paper packs (or papers from a quilling kit), is to fan the paper out and use a binder clip at one end of the paper. At the other end, cut or tear off the glued ends so that the strips are all separated.  Then when you need a certain color, you just tear if off the binder clip.

Hang all of the papers so that they are within easy reach.
