Hi, I am so new to quilling that I am still waiting for my first supplies to arrive. So I came across a really great bargain on some poster board and was wondering if it would work with quilling? Also, what kind of glue does everyone use? I would prefer something that sticks quickly and is easy to clean up. If I have to pick one or the other, it would have to be the one that cleans up easily because I am a bit of a clutz and am bound to have an accident or two. Thanks for your advice. I look forward to learning more about this new hobby of mine.

Poster board probably would work with quilling as a background to glue a design onto.  The recommended glue to use for quilling is white glue that dries clear, such as PVC or Elmers.  Only small amounts of glue is used (a tiny dot of glue on the tip of a pointed toothpick is all that's needed to swipe across the width end of a rolled paper coil to glue the end down, and to glue shaped pieces together.  Craft stores and quilling supply websites have special small plastic bottle dispensers for glue that controls the amount of glue out of the bottle's tip.

Thanks Gail! That was very helpful, I was afraid that I would have to buy some $12 bottle of glue. I'm on a fixed income right now and need to keep the costs down. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Anna, glad I could help.  I've always used Elmer's with regular paper strips, I squeeze just a little bit of glue into a plastic contact lens case cup that I use to dip the tip of a toothpick into when gluing coils and assembling pieces.  Quilling is inexpensive and you don't need a lot to start.

Gail is providing some great advice.  We also recommend white Elmers glue for quilling.
