Trust me, it’s not an easy task when it comes to keeping quilling papers organized! I’ve used different methods, but this seems to work fairly well. Plus it looks so pretty when the papers are altogether!<br /><br /><img title="Name: Rainbow-ring-copy-213x300.jpg Views: 2399 Size: 20.0 KB" src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/images/Rainbow-ring-copy-213x300.jpg" alt="Name: Rainbow-ring-copy-213x300.jpgViews: 2399Size: 20.0 KB" width="213" height="300" border="0" /><br /><br />First, I highly recommend keeping your quilling paper in the package because it’ll keep your papers from creasing or tangling. I like the 17-inch length of our Quilled Creations papers because they stack neatly side-by-side and they fit in those standard storage bins with drawers! (Also, majority of my designs use strips 16-inches or less! The extra inch on the paper lengths allows you to tear off the ends – a good quilling technique!)<br /><br />Use a binder ring and feed it through the hole in the packaging. You can find these at your local office supply store.<br /><br /><img title="Name: close-up-ring-copy.jpg Views: 1718 Size: 46.3 KB" src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/images/close-up-ring-copy.jpg" alt="Name: close-up-ring-copy.jpgViews: 1718Size: 46.3 KB" width="300" height="250" border="0" /><br /><img title="Name: TaiwanPaperRing-300x228.jpg Views: 1811 Size: 10.5 KB" src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/images/TaiwanPaperRing-300x228.jpg" alt="Name: TaiwanPaperRing-300x228.jpgViews: 1811Size: 10.5 KB" width="300" height="228" border="0" /><br /><br />Use one ring for all of your colors or several rings and group them by like colors.<br /><br /><img title="Name: Cut-Layer-copy.jpg Views: 1341 Size: 47.6 KB" src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/images/Cut-Layer-copy.jpg" alt="Name: Cut-Layer-copy.jpgViews: 1341Size: 47.6 KB" width="300" height="225" border="0" /><br /><br />Next, use scissors to cut an opening though the bag. CUT ONLY ONE LAYER of the bag. Avoid cutting to the bag’s edge or it might rip completely from the label. If it does happen, then just reinforce the cut ends with tape. You only need a hole big enough to pull one end of the paper out.<br /><br /><img title="Name: Inner-layer-copy-300x144.jpg Views: 1341 Size: 10.1 KB" src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/images/Inner-layer-copy-300x144.jpg" alt="Name: Inner-layer-copy-300x144.jpgViews: 1341Size: 10.1 KB" width="300" height="144" border="0" /><br /><br />Detach a quilling strip from the inner layer (see photo). Pull a strip out and detach it from the other end. Simple! No kinks, no bends, no tangle! (Technique Tip: Once I have the strip out of the packaging, I immediately tear off the ends or the padding glue that might still be on the paper ends. You want to have a feathered torn end so when the paper’s end is glued to the coil it will look seamless!)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Other-end-copy.jpg" alt="" border="0" /><br /><br />With multi-colored quilling packs, I use zip-lock bags or the 6″ x 9″ bags that our kits are stored in. I try to keep like colors together. It doesn’t always happen, especially when I’m in a rush to take some quilling paper on a trip or for a class. But the bags helps store those loose strips of quilling paper.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Zipbags-copy.jpg" alt="" border="0" /><br /><br />Another tip to hold your mixed/multi-colored paper packs (or papers from a quilling kit), is to fan the paper out and use a binder clip at one end of the paper. At the other end, cut or tear off the glued ends so that the strips are all separated. Then when you need a certain color, you just tear if off the binder clip.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Binder-clip-copy.jpg" alt="" border="0" /><br /><br />Hang all of the papers so that they are within easy reach.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.quilledcreations.com/quillingblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/board-copy-225x300.jpg" alt="" border="0" /><br /><br />Hope this gives you some ideas for an organized craft/quilling area!!</p>urn:store:1:blog:post:3https://www.quilledcreations.com/quilled-bowsQuilled Bows<p>Need a quick “something” to spruce-up a birthday present? Not only does this fish show the beauty of crimped strips of paper, but it show the incredible colors of quilling paper we offer! </p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/Crimper-fish1-1024x779.jpg" alt="Quilled Crimper Fish" width="596" height="453" /></p> <p>We have new shaded mix packs and paper sheets!</p> <p> </p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/Eye-candy-colors-copy-879x1024.jpg" alt="Quilling Paper Dress" width="620" height="722" /></p> <p>Our tool, The Deluxe Crimper, is hot!! Kids love it and there are so many different ways to use crimped strips. The tool has two different sized crimps, fine and course. It can crimper paper strips up to 3/8-inch or 9mm.</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/crimper-top-merged-181x300.jpg" alt="Quilling Crimper top view" width="181" height="300" /><img src="/Images/uploaded/crimper-catalog-2012-300x179.jpg" alt="Quilling Crimper Front View" width="300" height="179" /></p> <p> </p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/samples1-1024x533.jpg" alt="Quilling Samples - Crimper" width="512" height="267" /></p> <p>Roll a crimped as is OR sandwich the crimped strip between to flat strips of paper. Be sure to roll the paper gently so that the crimps don’t flatten out.<br /><br />For a quick and easy jewelry project, roll a few different strips of crimped quilling paper. Then glue them inside our jewelry pendants or rings! Pearls are my favorite, but gems will definitely bring out some bling!</p> <p> </p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/crimper-ring-300x246.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="246" />                  <img src="/Images/uploaded/ring-group-copy-300x265.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="265" /></p> <p>This fish pendant shows the new shade of oranges. I’m in love with these colors!</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/fish-pendant-copy-300x215.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="215" /></p> <p> </p> <p>Enjoy!<br /><br />Alli</p>urn:store:1:blog:post:1https://www.quilledcreations.com/vortex-coils-quilled-butterflyVortex Coils - Butterfly<p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-butterfly.jpg" alt="" width="398" height="341" /></p> <p>This entire butterfly was made with fingers…no rolling and no quilling tools!</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-pieces.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="346" /></p> <p>The shape is call a “vortex coil”. A talented quiller, Licia Politis, from Australia invented this new shape! It actually looks really cool when it’s done with a longer strip of paper (16 inches or longer), but I wanted to experiment with graduated papers. Graduated papers are only 12 inches in length and they fade from white to a color. I love the effect of this paper…but here’s my attempt with the vortex coil.</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/Blog-Supplies-Header.jpg" alt="quilling supplies" width="200" height="37" /></p> <p>- 1/4-inch Graduated Paper (pink, purple, bright green)<br /><br />- craft glue<br /><br />- scissors<br /><br />BUTTERFLY INSTRUCTIONS:</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-step1.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="155" /></p> <p>1.) The vortex coil is like making a wheatear or continuous loops. First, make a small loop. Then make a slightly larger loop by wrapping the paper strip around the first loop. Keep the loops close together and evenly spaced. When you get to the end of the paper strips, glue the paper’s end to the base (or point) of the wheatear and trim off any excess paper.</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-step2.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="155" /></p> <p>2.) Hold the base of the wheatear. Then push the round end inward. Release the coils near the base and allow the coils to shift into the “vortex” shape. You can play around with pinching and reshaping during this step! (I’ll have to show you what it looks like with a longer or bigger wheatear in a future post! Shorter papers don’t show enough of the vortex shape.)</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-step3.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></p> <p>3.) Make 8 bright green, 4 purple and 4 pink vortex coils. Glue them into groups.</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-step4.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="228" /></p> <p>4.) Wrap a 12-inch purple strip around each groups.</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortext-step5.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="251" /></p> <p>5.) Make a body and an antenna. Glue the pieces together.</p> <p><img src="/Images/uploaded/vortex-butterfly.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="257" /></p>
